[The Performance is Happening: 20 Days Live]






In “The Performance is Happening: 20 Days Live”, there were 2 phases, including [ Phase 1: Jing Pang’s solo - Performance Card ] and [ Phase 2: collaboration with artists ].

In the first ten days, I performed with my performance card, including the action card and the focus card. I randomly drew five cards to decide the elements of the performance the next day. My system and value are in the deck. I'm interested in learning more about our limited control over our own destiny, our limitless potential, and the nature of chance. The content of action cards are verbs related to a specific action, for example, drink, jump, walk, etc. Focus cards are nouns that represent the elements of Art.

在這十日當中,我的方法是這樣的:每一晚隨機地抽五張牌,兩張Focus card,三張Action card。我會先整體思考整組牌的結構,先決定主要的元素,再思考行動的節奏和與物料的互動。

我會先試驗物料,但不會有完整的「綵排」,我想要保留讓物料帶動身體的可能性,在當下發生時,再推到最盡,所以這十天中也有很多「意外」,例如第一天在中大百萬大道上,風太大,踩線的身體幅度也相對增加;第六天的元素是火,最後燃燒火紙時太大火,𣊬間鬆開的本能反應;第七天,把兩塊布捲起時也捲著頭髮,由站著的姿勢到被布帶著我蹲下來。

以上的身體感知和反應都是現場發生的,這當中有一個很重要的元素:未知。當面對未知時,我到底要如何繼續走下去呢?𣊬間必須作出決定,而我依靠的是直覺。如果相對於直覺是理性邏輯思考的話,對我來說,直覺背後有其獨特的系統,包括身體經驗、記憶、反應等,而這些都是會累積的,在電光火石的𣊬間就會顯現。

在[ THE PERFORMANCE IS HAPPENING: 20 DAYS - Phase 1: Jing Pang’s Solo ], 我想要探索的是在有限的框架中如何發揮無限潛能,以及選擇的自由和隨機性的關係。

在創作這卡牌時,一開始還是帶有藝術訓練的習慣,圖像的表達相對具像,但慢慢地發現,我需要把圖像的想像空間擴展,繼而出現符號的結構,我希望透過卡牌與行為的呈現,打破對詞語約定俗成的定義,繼而重新建構意義的過程。

An audience Longmanyo asked: “where is the delay?”
Another audience Vi, answered: “There are many delays in her performance. She is holding the towel in her hand and letting the water slowly drip down into the glass bowl.” I agreed with her. It was the delay when the water drips drop by drop until it stopped. There were many delays, such as the sound of my fingers clicking on the glass bowl slowly fading into the air. When I immersed my head in the water, I used up the capacity of my lungs, delaying each breathing. I treasure the curiosity of the audience. Their live participation on-site was passive, yet, their presence gave me the energy to push myself to the end. The energy was like an invisible force field, gathering all the attention on every action in the live performance on site.

The world view behind these 100 cards is as follows: I choose the decisive elements by randomness. Under the constraints of the cards, I believe I have the freedom to arrange the focus and proportion of the acts. It is comparable to making choices in life. The fateful randomness, the coincidence that doesn't make sense, the external factors that we could not control, such as the characteristic of physical ability, family background, the joys and sorrows in the encounter, and the struggle of the dark side in our mind. I believe everyone has the capability of self-transformation to find the path that truly belongs to us. When we face the fear of the unknown, we all have the power to be reborn and rise from the ashes. I trust the pureness in the experience. We would eventually find our path in the process.

現場觀眾 Longmanyo問道: 「Delay在哪裡?」
另一位現場觀眾 Vi 回答: 「我見到很多延遲啊,當她很定格地拿著毛巾讓水滴下來時,對我來說,那就代表延遲。」
我回應: 「是的,當水由一條線滴到逐粒逐粒,再到無水滴下來時,這就是延遲。其實在那天的performance 中,也有其他延遲,例如的我用手指彈玻璃盤的聲音,慢慢消散在空氣中或是當我整張面浸到水中的呼吸,我用盡肺部的容量,延遲每次閉氣與吹氣的節奏。」
觀眾的在場有種奇妙的energy,就像一個無形的力場,在live performance的場域中會慢慢建構起來。

每一張卡牌的詞語可以有無限的詮釋空間,所以在每次開始Performance前,我並沒有安排任何象徵的前設。但是,整個Performance Card Project的背後,的確有我想要探索的重要性。

這一百張卡牌背後的世界觀是這樣的:

以隨機抽樣的方式抽出決定性的元素,在這五張有限制的詞語組合中,看似被規範著被限制著,但我擁有自由去分配行為的重點和比例,以及我如何選擇物料和空間的安排。其實這好像生命,看似命運般的隨機性,那種無法以理性分析的巧合,一些我們無法掌控的外在因素,如身體先天性的特點、家庭背景、際遇中的悲歡離合、內心的黑暗與光明的掙扎等,但透過自身內在轉化的能力,我們都能在這些不可抗力的因素中,創造一個專屬於我們的情境。更重要的是,當面對未知的恐懼時,看似難以克服的關口,徘徊在停滯不前的瓶頸,即使是艱辛痛苦,或是悲傷難過,我們都擁有脫殼重生的力量,擁抱過程中的純粹,在濃霧中走上屬於自己的路。

For the other ten days, I will invite ten artists to collaborate, which will explore the current concept of a guest artist. I will respond to the specific concept with my artistic practice. We will co-create a performance piece related to certain aspects, such as action, balance, family history, material, movement, mythology, nature, poem, sound, etc. I wish to connect the talented artist, co-create performance in this togetherness and share the moment of the meditative state, which is the most valuable - the pure existence in mind.
