[Action Space-time Notes]
Balancing flowers made in Thailand on my head, gently swayed them toward the sunrise. Taking pink dragon fruits out of a bamboo basket, I placed two under my knees to support them. Using my mouth to bite into one, slowly eating it as pink juice flows out. The white suspender dress is stained pink. Randomly tossing white balls of yarn up to the ceiling, letting them hang and fall unpredictably. Holding a transparent plastic sheet placed on the ground in front of me, I continuously twist and rub it to produce sounds. Pressing the plastic sheet forcefully, squeezing it repeatedly. Suddenly stopping for a moment, taking a deep breath, then slowly breathing deeply again.

Asiatopia] – Observations from the Thailand Performance Art Festival:
Asiatopia began in Thailand in 1998 and has a history of 26 years.
Below is their founding philosophy:
[ASIATOPIA WAS A DREAM?]
Asiatopia Performance Art Festival, first organised in 1998, and we started…
Asiatopia was a dream; we dreamed that we could do an international art event. We
dreamed that Thailand would become another meeting point for artists from around the world. We
dreamed that artists in Asia should be able to meet each other more often in Asia. We
dreamed that the Thai government would have good programs to support art and artists…
In our second year in 1999, our statement responded to the global situation, we stated, “ During the organisation of this festival, tragedies struck us at heart. We watched the referendum vote for
the independence of East Timor (Tomor’Este) with our deep sentiment and fearing that some terrible things would happen. It did, and we cried with horror, not expecting it to be worse than we could imagine.
Amid all these chemical blast happened in the Chiangmai factory and destroyed 600 houses in 2 villages, earth earthquake hit Taiwan and took many lives… Destruction continued, in October, repression against Burmese refugees in Thailand following the seizure of the Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok, and a military coup in Pakistan… towards the end of 1999, in Asia.
Despite all this endless adversity, democratic advocates in Asia still carry on their fight. This
proves that freedom and democracy are still an issue in our region. As artists, we are struggling for recognition to freedom of our expression in our society, as much as democracy can spell out…
This may be part of our discovery of the word ASIATOPIA.
